I try to bring into all my work a sense of the past, of our English history and climate, the fabric of our society, our awareness of what it is to be an island race. At the same time, the objects I make must have a reference to my 21st Century existence, to my modern life; my emotional reactions to the contemporary scene. The objects which I choose often link these past and present experiences, Kings and Queens, architecture, landscapes, memories of childhood.
I try to give the objects a timelessness, but their emotions must resonate with my own contemporary experience if they are to have vitality.
